SQLite Exercise: Select first 10 records from a table

Write a query to select first 10 records from a table.

Note : Assume the salary field provides the 'annual salary' information.

Sample table : employees

View the table

SQLite Code :

-- Selecting the "employee_id" and "first_name" columns
SELECT employee_id, first_name
-- Specifying the table from which to retrieve the data, in this case, "employees"
FROM employees
-- Limiting the result set to the first 10 records
LIMIT 10;

Output:

employee_id first_name
----------- ----------
100 Steven
101 Neena
102 Lex
103 Alexander
104 Bruce
105 David
106 Valli
107 Diana
108 Nancy
109 Daniel

Explanation:

The above SQLite query retrieves the "employee_id" and "first_name" columns from the "employees" table but only includes the first 10 records in the result set. This is useful for quickly inspecting or sampling a subset of the data.

Here's a brief explanation of each part of SQLite code:

  • SELECT clause:
    • It selects the "employee_id" and "first_name" columns from the "employees" table.
  • FROM clause:
    • Specifies the table from which to retrieve the data, in this case, the "employees" table.
  • LIMIT clause:
    • Limits the result set to the first 10 records.

Go to:

PREV : Write a query to get the length of the employee names (first_name, last_name) from employees table.
NEXT : Write a query to get monthly salary (round 2 decimal places) of each and every employee?
